  Non-Cash Fringe Benefits Are a Plus!
 

Fringe benefits are an important part of any company’s compensation package and are often a deciding factor in a team member’s decision to stay at a job or look elsewhere. The internal revenue code allows for a number of non-cash fringe benefits for team members, so when planning this year’s budget, consider using non-cash benefits to reward your team members.

Non-cash benefits are desirable because they are excluded from the employee’s gross income and are tax deductible for the employer. Here are a few non-cash benefits you can provide for your team members:

Reimbursement up to $60 per month for use of public transportation

Reimbursement up to $180 per month if paid parking is required near work or a commuter station

Offer transportation in company-owned commuter vehicles

Operate an on-premise health club for team members

Give discounts on products or services provided by your business
 

bullet

Permit more liberal use of company equipment for personal use (e.g. copier, Fax)

These non-cash benefits are excluded from gross income and payroll taxes, which translate to savings for the company and your team members. No big deal you say? Not true! These exclusions can be significant, considering that the average rate of payroll taxes paid is around 7.65%.
