There is no time like winter to curl up under a warm, home-made quilt with a mug of steaming hot chocolate.  But what if you don’t have a home-made quilt?  Then you need to go to Stitches-N-Stuffing in Naperville, IL and make one!

Stitches-N-Stuffing first opened its doors in 1981 when Sarah Coulson’s mother decided to try her hand in the retail sewing business with the help of her grandmother.  The women had visions of sewing’s future and decided to focus on machine sewing, not just hand sewing.  Their original facility was a mere 1,000 square feet and housed only 5 employees.  In order to widen product lines and increase classroom space, the business moved several times and currently occupies a 7,200 square foot facility with 35 employees and 4 classrooms.  In 1992, Stitches-N-Stuffing began to carry Bernina® sewing machines and soon took over a local dealership of the machines.  Today, Stitches-N-Stuffing is one of the Top 5 Bernina® dealers in the United States!

Stitches-N-Stuffing offers fabric, quilting, sewing, cross stitching, needlework, and embroidery products as well as hard-to-find items for special projects.  Each trimester, the store holds about 80 classes ranging from beginning quilting to quilt finishing to fun sewing projects like teddy bears, rugs, fabric scrapbooks, etc.  Classes are taught at all levels for children to adults in one of the store’s four classrooms.

So what sets Stitches-N-Stuffing apart from other retailers of its kind?  Every member of its knowledgeable staff has sewing experience and is committed to serving customers to the best of their abilities; some employees have worked for the company for 14 years.  In addition to a higher degree of knowledge and customer service, the company also offers professional machine services and a larger variety of classes than similar retailers offer.

As for the company’s future, in order to accommodate it’s ever-growing product lines and services, Stitches-N-Stuffing is looking again to increase the available space of its current facility.  They will also begin putting Bernina® sewing machines in area scrapbook stores due to the growing interest in fabric scrapbooking.  In Spring 2005, keep an eye out for Alex Anderson from HGTV’s “Simply Quilts.”  Ms. Anderson will be doing a special program exclusively for Stitches-N-Stuffing!

“Stitches-N-Stuffing - your Bernina® center for creative sewing at its best!”
